The chorus under Susan Steenkamp Swanepoel is beautiful and many members of the BTE VO1SS Opera Chorus are also members of the BTE VO1SS Academy which trains opera singers. Members of the Academy are Dorah Kganakga, Segomotso Shupinyaneng, Naledi Mabi, Tshegofatso Moleyane, Pretty Skhosana, Kagiso Boroko, Mteto Maphoyi, Mziwxolo Stokwe, Martin Mkhize and Solly Motaung.

The concert took place on 27 September 2012 at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City. Forthcoming events are the BTE Spring Dinner Concert at the Blue Diamond Boutique Hotel on 26 October, Sunday Morning Concert: The Magic of the Musicals at the Drama Theatre, State Theatre, Pretoria, on 28 October, a Christmas Concert at the Linder Auditorium on 30 November, a Christmas Concert in the Park at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens on 1 December and in the Pretoria Botanical Gardens on 8 December.

The concert was held at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City Casino. There is still a fairly strong resistance from people living north of Empire Road to cross to the south, and the sumptuous recreation of a Victorian theatre, for it really is Johannesburg’s most beautiful theatre, was not completely full.

Kruger National Park 2012

 
 


It was an impromptu decision to visit Kruger National Park this past weekend.  It still feels unreal that I left the Kruger Park almost 18 years ago.  It was wonderful to see some of the old staff but even more rewarding to be remembered.  The highlight was undoubtedly the rain that fell and the amazing animals we saw.  Kruger National Park will always be in my blood…

Gariep Dam

The Gariep Dam (formerly known as the Hendrik Verwoerd Dam) forms the largest storage reservoir on South Africa with a total storage of approximately 5 500 million m3 and a surface area of more than 370 km2 when full. The dam is the central structure of the original Orange River Project which involves the supply of water to parts of the VaalFish and Sundays catchments as well as to irrigation along the Orange river itself.
